Idles play 02 City Hall, Newcastle

Amazing IDLES gig at O2 City Hall Newcastle

An assault on the senses. Idles are electric from the moment they step out onto the 02 City Hall stage. Strong, blunt, to the point and true to their punk roots, this band are at the top of their game.

The room is plunged into darkness, and the crowd quietens in anticipation. A simmering pulse permeates the room as the band opens with Idea 01 and then in quick succession fires out Colossis, Gift Horse, Mr Motivator, followed by Mother.

Idles have a way of injecting energy into the room that does not diminish throughout the two-hour set. Their live show is incredible! It's like being slapped around the face and getting a hug simultaneously. Idles are strong on their political beliefs and singer Joe Talbot bluntly repeats them in his unique and outspoken way.

Guitarist Bowen struts about the stage in a sheer skirt and boots, and Adam Devonshire’s deep driving bass burrows deep into the psyche.

Lee Kiernan crowd surfs the audience whilst still keeping time and managing to waft those luscious locks and drummer Jon Beavis pounds out the rhythm and holds it all together.

The crowd go wild, the push and pull of the mosh sending the audience into a unified frenzy.

It is a violent yet humble performance with a nod to the passion of the Geordie audience.

Devonshire and Bowen are rocking Newcastle United shirts. A boo from the audience as Talbot announces they have nearly finished closing the set with hits Danny Nedelko and finally Rottweiler. This is a show that reaffirms that it is good to be alive.

TANGK you, Idles you are legendary!
